The City of Wilson is located in the heart of Eastern North Carolina, just 40 miles away from the capital city of Raleigh. Since 1990, the city has grown in population by more than 40 percent, mainly due to the construction of new subdivisions that brought about an influx of new residents. By 2012, the Census Bureau reported that Wilson had a population of 49,610.
Along with these new residents came all sorts of new dogs, cats, and pets! According to the 2012 U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook, more than 36 percent of households featured a dog, while more than 30 percent owned a cat.
